How and why are we called?

May 12, 2019

I today’s message, Kelly Smith spoke to us about calling. The idea of call shows up in our lives in multiple ways, over the phone, verbally in person, and from God are a few ways that come to mind.

  • What is the best call you have ever received?

What Must Die So Christ May Live: Hatred

May 5, 2019

In this message, Rev. Shane Smith continued his series, speaking about putting the sin of hatred to death.

There are multiple passages about hate in the Bible; see some of them here.

Let us also see that even though Scripture says God is love, there are things He hates. See Prov 6:16-19 for some of that.

Here is the bulletin for the week.

Resurrection: Fact or Fable?

April 21, 2019

There are 4 major theories advanced to attempt to disprove the resurrection.

  1. The followers went to the wrong tomb.
  2. The disciples stole the body. Matt 28:11-15
  3. The swoon theory, that Jesus woke up and went on His own power.
  4. The hallucination theory: the disciples hallucinated and though they saw Jesus.

10 reasons we believe in the Resurrection of Jesus.

  1. No body was produced; the tomb was empty.
  2. The dramatic change in the disciples, from fearful to bold.
  3. The grave clothes left in the tomb. John 20:3-8
  4. Jesus was seen at least ten times and by over 500 people at once.
  5. The Resurrection was preached shortly after Jesus’ Resurrection.
  6. The existence of the church today.
  7. The change of the day of worship from Saturday to Sunday.
  8. The change of the calendar, from BC to AD.
  9. People have experienced Christ’s life changing power for almost 2000 years.
  10. Women were the first to report the empty tomb.

The Resurrection of Jesus says a number of things to us.

  1. We are not hopeless.
  2. Christ’s death for our sins was a sufficient price for our sins. Our sins are forgiven.
  3. God is a God of 2nd, 3rd, and more chances.
  4. Jesus is Lord of life and death.
  5. I do not have to fear death.
  6. I have a Savior who has faced all I have faced or will face and has conquered it all.
  7. My losses can be gains.
  8. Jesus gives me real love.
  9. Jesus gives us life abundantly John 10:10
  10. All the promises of God are yes in Christ. 2 COr 1:20

April 14, 2019

Rev. Larry Powell preached a message for us today.

Why were the Jewish people of Jesus’ day so far off in their expectations?

What can we learn from their error in reading and interpreting Scripture?

What are your expectations of God?

What are some assurances we have from God for us?

  1. We can cast all our care upon Him. 1 Peter 5:7
  2. He will never leave us or forsake us and He is with us always . Hebrews 13:5-6; Matthew 28:20
  3. He causes all things to work together for good.  Romans 8:28
  4. He really loves us no matter what. Romans 5:18; Psalm 136; Romans 8:35-39
  5. Jesus intercedes for us. Hebrews 7:25
  6. The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness and makes intercession for us. Romans 8:25-26
  7. He helps us in our weaknesses and temptations. Hebrews 4:15-16; 1 Corinthians 10:13
Here is the bulletin for this week.

April 7, 2019

In this post there are three pieces.

As has been the case with Pastor Shane in the past, communion happens before the message; the first eleven or so minutes include that and some important truths of Christ’s sacrifice for us.

Next there is a message . largely focused on idolatry.

  1. Who or what are we worshipping?
  2. What comes to mind when you think about idolatry?
  3. Do we think of it as worship of a thing or person who is not God as God?

Finally there was an epilogue of sorts, where the message was seemingly over but he kept teaching in a way we believe many will find useful.

Here is the bulletin for the week.

March 31, 2019

In this message Pastor Shane Smith continued a series called “What Must Die so Christ May Live.”

Gal 2:20 is the centerpiece of the series. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

For this message consider these two passages.

  • Gal 5:13-21 tells us much about freedom, love, and ways to NOT love our neighbor.
  • in 2 Sam 11:1-5 we see the following regarding his affair with a married woman.
  1. David Saw Her
  2. David Sent for Her
  3. David Slept with Her

What comes from this? Among other things, Psalm 51. If we are ever in a place where we think we need to repent but are falling short of the words to do this in prayer, have a look at this Psalm.

Here is the bulletin for this week.

Honoring God With Our Bodies

March 24, 2019

This is the first message for a new series by Pastor Shane Smith entitled What Must Die…So Christ May Live.

Gal 2:20 is the key passage for the series: I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

See also Gal 5:13-21 for some teaching on the flesh.

  • Walk by the Spirit
  • Stay in Step with the Spirit
  • Don’t gratify or give in to the flesh
  1. You are not your own
  2. You were Bought at a high price
  3. Honor God with your body
  4. The body was made by the Lord and it is meant for the Lord.

Here is the bulletin for this week.

In Adversity

March 17, 2019

In this message, Bryant Dougharty preached on adversity, speaking initially to some of the church’s children then to the adults.

He used Psalm 27 and other passages to do this.
