Impurity

March 31, 2019

In this message Pastor Shane Smith continued a series called “What Must Die so Christ May Live.”

Gal 2:20 is the centerpiece of the series. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

For this message consider these two passages.

  • Gal 5:13-21 tells us much about freedom, love, and ways to NOT love our neighbor.
  • in 2 Sam 11:1-5 we see the following regarding his affair with a married woman.
  1. David Saw Her
  2. David Sent for Her
  3. David Slept with Her

What comes from this? Among other things, Psalm 51. If we are ever in a place where we think we need to repent but are falling short of the words to do this in prayer, have a look at this Psalm.

Honoring God With Our Bodies

March 24, 2019

This is the first message for a new series by Pastor Shane Smith entitled What Must Die…So Christ May Live.

Gal 2:20 is the key passage for the series: I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

See also Gal 5:13-21 for some teaching on the flesh.

  • Walk by the Spirit
  • Stay in Step with the Spirit
  • Don’t gratify or give in to the flesh
  1. You are not your own
  2. You were Bought at a high price
  3. Honor God with your body
  4. The body was made by the Lord and it is meant for the Lord.

In Adversity

March 17, 2019

In this message, Bryant Dougharty preached on adversity, speaking initially to some of the church’s children then to the adults.

He used Psalm 27 and other passages to do this.

Here is the bulletin for this week.

Set Apart Not Separate

March 10, 2019

In this message Brian preached to us about Romans 8:1-17 and sanctification specifically.

There is an expression you may have heard: I have been saved, I am being saved, and I will be saved.

In this message we heard about the being saved piece.

Holiness is a gift of God.

We are told to be holy.

Devoted to Prayer

March 4, 2019

In this message  Pastor Shane Smith concluded a series on how the early church was devoted; the focus of this message is prayer, both what gets in the way of it and what happens as a result.

Before the message actually started he was speaking on children a little bit and we saved these motivating words.

Devoted to Breaking Bread

February 24, 2019

This Sunday Pastor Shane Smith continued to teach us about devotion of early believers exhibited by breaking bread together, as illustrated in Acts 2.

After sharing communion together he used these two passages to illustrate it, with sharing a meal as at least a piece of this.

Here is the bulletin for this week.

Friend and Slave

February 17, 2019

In this message Pastor Brian spoke to the congregation about John 15, starting with verses 1-11 to lay some foundational groundwork before progressing on to 12-17 to discuss the relationship of friendship with Jesus, and how it is impacted by obedience to Him and also testifies to our faith.

Verses 14 and 15 sum this up. You are My friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.

Devoted to Faith Family

February 10, 2019

This week Pastor Shane Smith continued to speak to us about the devotion shown in Scripture to others to the faith family.

Ruth 1:16-17

  • But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.”

1 Samuel 19:1-2

  • Saul told his son Jonathan and all the attendants to kill David. But Jonathan had taken a great liking to David and warned him, “My father Saul is looking for a chance to kill you. Be on your guard tomorrow morning; go into hiding and stay there.

1 Samuel 23:16

  • And Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God.

Galatians 6:2

  • Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Romans 12:15

  • Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.

Hebrews 10:25

  • Do not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Devoted to Teaching

February 3, 2019

In this message Pastor Shane Smith, recently relocated to San Diego, introduced himself to us and then spoke to us about being devoted.

I’m afraid that far too many of the things to which we attach value and prioritize, things that have managed to capture our devotion, have little to no value in the life to come. (Shane Smith)

Acts 2:42-47

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved

1 Timothy 4:8 –

For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

Jesus said in Mark 8:36

What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?

Luke 12:15 –

Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

Verses like these, really cause us to pause and think about:

Our Time

Our Investment

Our Priorities

Our Value

Our Possessions

Our Devotion
